A rug has a job to do before it has a pattern
Area rugs add warmth, style and comfort to a room, and they protect the floor underneath from the traffic that would otherwise wear it. They also define spaces. A rug under a dining table says where the dining room starts, and one in front of a sofa pulls a big open room into a conversation area.
Size is where most people go wrong. A rug that is too small floats in the middle of the room and makes the furniture look scattered. Think about where the legs of the chairs or sofa will land, and measure the space with a tape before you shop, not after.

Two ways to get a rug at M & M
Rugs come in a wide variety of sizes, colours, patterns and textures, and they can complement any decor, from classic to contemporary. If you already know the room, bring the dimensions and a sense of the floor and walls, and our knowledgeable sales staff will help you narrow the choices.
The second way is the one regulars know. We keep a large inventory of quality remnant carpet pieces. You pick the carpet you like off the pile, and we cut it to the exact size you need. For a bedroom, a mudroom, a play area or a spot beside the bed, that can be the sensible answer.

Chapter 03
Looking after a rug once it is down
On a hard floor, put a pad or non-slip underlay beneath the rug so it stays where you laid it and does not creep when someone walks across. Rotate it from time to time so the same stretch does not take all the foot traffic or all the afternoon sun.
Vacuum regularly, and lift the rug now and then to sweep under it. If a rug is cut from a remnant, the same basic care applies as for any carpet. Questions about care or about the right size for a new space are welcome by phone.
